CONCRETE SCANNING
Concrete scanning is a non-invasive technique used to identify and map the internal features of concrete structures. It employs Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) or other advanced technologies to detect embedded objects such as rebar, post-tension cables, electrical conduits, and voids. By creating detailed visualizations of these internal components, concrete scanning ensures safe alterations and prevents structural damage during construction or renovation projects.
This process not only enhances the safety and efficiency of construction activities but also helps in maintaining the integrity and longevity of the structure. Furthermore, concrete scanning is invaluable in remodeling projects, where understanding the existing conditions is crucial for successful project execution.
Professional Concrete Scanning & Investigation Service
Our professional concrete scanning service is available to commercial and domestic customers in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Ipswich areas.
South East Scanning has a 24 hour emergency response service to assist our clients when projects are time critical or when safety concerns require immediate attention.
We use state-of-the-art concrete scanning equipment to quickly scan and inspect concrete spaces.
Our non-invasive Ground Penetrating Radar technology can find steel reinforcement, post-tension cables, live power, conduit and many other items. This allows our clients to cut into
concrete surfaces with confidence, knowing that any hidden items have been identified. Concrete scanning helps avoid cutting into rebar or utilities that could result in costly downtime, injury or even death.
GPR Versus X-ray?
At South East Scanning we use the latest GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) equipment.
In the concrete scanning and investigation industry X-ray has become a somewhat outdated technology for a number of reasons.
- X-ray is damaging to human health so operators need to set up an exclusion zone around the investigation site. This interrupts project progress and causes lost time for workers.
- X-ray produces a single image at a time, so progress can be very slow on larger areas. This also causes the process to become more costly.
- X-ray required access to both sides of the concrete structure being examined. This is because the transmitter and the received need to be on opposite sides to eachother.
Our Equipment
GPR can scan large areas quickly. We can produce vertical sectional views of the test area.
South East Scanning uses the industry leading Proceq brand of GPR. Unlike traditional devices with pulsed GPR technology, the Proceq equipment enables us to detect features of various types and sizes with an unmatched depth penetration.
Our equipment utilises augmented reality to create 2D and 3D visualizations of GPR data and insights.

MEET AIDAN AND DION
The Founders Of South East Scanning
South-East Scanning was founded by Aidan and Dion, two brothers from Melbourne, who brought together their extensive experience in the built environment and professional services sectors.
After relocating to South-East Queensland, they established South-East Scanning to fill a niche in the building and construction industry, specialising in ground-penetrating radar, concrete scanning, non-destructive testing, and utility locating services. Their background provided a strong foundation for the business, allowing them to offer expert insights and innovative solutions to meet the complex needs of their clients in the region.
At South-East Scanning, our mission is to help our clients understand sub-surface structures and mitigate their risk with our expertise in ground penetrating radar and utility detection. We are a family business with unique insights and a commitment to our clients’ success.
