Our Process

Here’s what working with us looks like from start to finish:

At South-East Scanning, we pride ourselves on delivering accurate, clear, and actionable subsurface data. Whether you’re planning excavation, structural assessment, or due diligence, our process ensures you receive industry-leading insights with minimal disruption to your site.

Initial Consultation and Scope Definition

Every project begins with a conversation. We take the time to understand:

  • Your objectives and concerns
  • Site access and safety requirements
  • Existing information (plans, BYDA, geotech reports)
  • Desired deliverables (e.g., engineering reports, AS5488-compliant sketches, CAD overlays)

This step ensures we tailor our equipment, frequencies, and survey methods to your needs.

Site Planning and Risk Mitigation

Before arrival, we review site-specific risks and requirements:

  • Confined space and working-at-heights permits
  • Live services (e.g., power, sewer, comms)
  • Environmental and geotechnical conditions
  • Safety documentation (SWMS, risk assessments)

We coordinate with other contractors or site representatives to ensure smooth access and integration into broader workflows.

Field Scanning and Survey Control

We deploy advanced GPR systems (such as the Proceq GP8000, IDS Stream, or Impulse Radar PinPointR) suited to your application. Our scanners are often paired with:

  • Emlid Reach RS2 GNSS receivers (for real-time survey-grade positioning)
  • Total station control (for high-accuracy data in urban or indoor settings)

Where applicable, our GPR units are mounted to trolleys or vehicle-based arrays to scan large areas quickly and at depth.

Data Processing and Geospatial Mapping

Back at the office, we bring your site to life:

  • Process GPR data using software like Geolitix or Radan, depending on unit
  • Clean, enhance, and interpret B-scans, depth slices, and 3D C-scans
  • Export survey points and overlays into QGIS, where we georeference your site against aerial imagery, CAD drawings, or custom basemaps

Each utility or subsurface feature is tagged with confidence level, material type, depth estimate, and alignment to AS5488 Quality Levels.

Report Generation and Deliverables

We produce clear and concise deliverables, tailored to your audience:

  • Technical reports with annotated images and depth cross-sections
  • CAD-ready DXF or SHP files for your engineering team
  • PDF and interactive maps for site management
  • AS5488 utility sketches (QL-A to QL-D as appropriate)

If you require visualisation of anomalies, structural details, or concrete layering, we include advanced depth slices and side-by-side plan views.

Interactive Viewer via Geolitix

For larger or high-visibility projects, we host your data on a secure, interactive Geolitix link. This allows you to:

  • View your site remotely in a browser
  • Toggle layers (utilities, services, anomalies, slabs)
  • Zoom, measure, and share the scan with stakeholders or contractors

No software installation required – just send the link.

Post-Project Support

We follow up to ensure your data is understood and usable:

  • One-on-one walkthrough of the report and map viewer
  • Q&A with your engineers or project managers
  • Adjustments or revisions if additional data is gathered

Our aim is simple: to give you clarity and confidence in every decision that touches the ground.
